Bethel Parlor Tricks

In this post by Charisma News you’re going to see a clip that never actually made it to the original film called “Father of Lights.” This is supposed to be a manifestation from God called “the glory cloud.”

A few things to notice here. First, listen to Bethel worship leader Jeremy Riddle talk about something taking over him during “worship.”

He claims that the words and singing coming out of him are of some other origin. He says it’s the Holy Spirit. I’d like to know how he knows it’s the Holy Spirit, and not a different spirit.

Second, notice the reaction of the audience when the “glory cloud” appears. Anyone in Scripture that experienced a “manifestation” of God in even the smallest way were filled with fear. Peter comes to mind:

Luke 5:8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus ‘knees, saying, ” Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.”

Finally, notice the “glory cloud” itself.

Is this what a true “manifestation of God looks like, smoke and what appears to be confetti? Nothing at all like this ever happend in Scripture. This is nothing more than a cheap parlor trick.
